What does a person do when they are faced with something they know they can’t face on their own?

This someone (Mary!) leans on friends and family. I also try to get incredibly involved with a bunch of non-profits that maybe someday will make a difference.

You can see all about what I’m doing in Cleveland with the Relay For Life of Hillcrest – and many of you know as a co-chair of the Troy Relay For Life in 2007 we raised $185,000, where the year before we raised $98,000. I believe the reason for that success was our leader Megan, our wonderful resourceful and smart Pam, our incredible online guru Gina, my fun co-chair Diane and all of the other wonderful committee members (Julie and her incredible spirit, Kris & Jen) among others. I have always believed that teamwork and the excitement of a wonderful group together can do more than apart. I’m excited to go back and participate in what I’ve always thought was ‘our’ Relay on May 31 and June 1 (at the Troy Community Center), just after I sell my house in Royal Oak!

Next, I’ll lead a new team in the Hillcrest Relay For Life – raising money and participate in the overnight event as part of Mary’s Miracle Makers. I hope my old and new friends together with me, will make a difference! This Relay is at Brush High School on June 13 & 14. Ask me for more info if you are in Cleveland and interested.

Times are changing, a major move from Detroit to Cleveland, a new job that allows me to be myself and be on fantastic teams, being home for the first time since I left for college 17 years, moving into a house for 5 months and now into another house for what we hope is a good while….

Thank God I’m home to be here for Mom. Now it means more than ever before.

To all my family and all my friends out there in Detroit (and before that from around the world at all my different jobs and careers and adventures) – remember how much I value your love and friendship!

    Dear Mary,
Thank you for taking the time to post updates about your mom. I have kept her and you and your dad in my prayers this summer as you deal with her cancer prognosis. Your mom has always been a strong & constant presence at CSU School of Nursing and a role model for many of us on the faculty…snd she always will be for those of us who have had the privilege to share her worklife. God bless you and your family!
